Suspicious activity
1. Unexpected phone calls, texts or emails asking for information.
2. Someone calling to say you have an ‘issue’ with your computer.
3. Phone calls, texts or emails advising that you’ve won something.
4. Companies you know calling you unexpectedly about an issue.
5. A request from someone you don’t know to ‘help them transfer funds’ – and they’ll give you an amount for your trouble.
How to protect yourself
1. Never share personal or financial information with anyone you don’t know.
2. Never share your passwords or logins. Make your passwords long, strong and unique.
3. If you think you are being targeted by a scam, do not engage.
4. If you are not sure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and call the company directly.
5. Never share any bank issued authorisation codes received via SMS.
