Finance Now and Contagion launch NOW Rewards Visa with national “Own Your Moment” campaign

Finance Now, 100% New Zealand-owned, has launched NOW Rewards Visa, a fresh chapter for its credit card built from the ground up with independent agency Contagion.

At the heart of the proposition is a combination most cards don’t offer together: interest-free finance and an everyday rewards programme. Built around the campaign line “Own your moment,” the work is grounded in how financial decisions feel. The confidence of saying yes to a home upgrade. The relief of spreading a bigger purchase into manageable payments. The reward of getting something back on a dinner out, or the weekly shop.

Lorraine Breheny, GM Marketing at Finance Now, said the campaign was shaped by a clear consumer insight.

“Our research tells us many younger consumers are wary of credit and don’t fully understand how interest-free finance works. That was the insight behind this campaign. We wanted to demystify that and show younger New Zealanders what a credit card can do for them when it combines interest-free finance with everyday rewards.”

The card, formerly the Purple Visa Card, has been reimagined from the ground up. Contagion led the creative across the full scope, from naming the card and designing the card art through to delivering an integrated campaign spanning TVC, digital, social and content partnerships. The rebrand brings the credit card under Finance Now’s broader “NOW moments” brand platform, which already anchors its personal loans and retail finance products.

The integrated rollout gives the credit card brand a fresh, modern voice that speaks to younger, value-conscious New Zealanders on their terms.

Breheny said the result reflected the strength of the partnership. “Our marketing team and Contagion have built something with genuine energy, and a creative platform that gives us room to educate and build trust.”

Dean Taylor, CEO of Contagion, said the partnership had been built end-to-end.

“We’re really proud to be working with the team on this. We’ve been involved from the very start, from naming the card through to designing it and seeing the finished TVC’s, so it’s been great to see it come together from start to finish and out in the market.

“People are looking for smarter, more flexible ways to manage how they spend, while still getting something back. What’s compelling about NOW Rewards Visa is that, unlike other cards, it brings those two things together. You get the control of interest-free, along with the upside of rewards. This campaign is about showing how that works in everyday moments, not just talking about features.”

The campaign is live now.

Kiwi-owned Finance Now introduces NOW Rewards Visa

Finance Now introduces NOW Rewards Visa, the first credit card to carry the Finance Now name. The card brings digital wallet support starting with Google Pay, with Apple Pay to follow, and keeps its rewards programme and long-term interest free finance at a moment when major banks are cutting card benefits.

The card replaces the Purple Visa Card, which Finance Now acquired from The Warehouse Group in 2017, and has operated* since.

For many Kiwi households, a one-off cost like a fridge that dies, or the car needs new tyres, or kitting the kids out with devices for the school year, is the kind of expense that knocks a monthly budget sideways. Long-term interest free finance, used responsibly, turns that one-off shock into predictable payments. That kind of flexibility matters more, not less, as Kiwi households continue to feel the pressure of rising costs.

The rebrand comes after a year of significant change in New Zealand’s credit card market. Since the Commerce Commission’s new interchange fee caps came into effect in December 2025, major banks have scaled back their rewards programmes. One major bank exited its flagship Airpoints partnership. Another announced a points devaluation of around 26 per cent alongside cuts to interest free days and travel insurance. For cardholders, it adds up to less value from their cards at a time when they need more.

Finance Now is going the other way.

“A credit card isn’t just a product. For a lot of Kiwi households, it’s a way to manage the month,” says Hadyn Halls, CEO of Finance Now. “When the fridge dies or the car needs new tyres, interest free finance at a trusted retailer can be the difference between a stressful month and a manageable one. We’ve watched the market cut back on rewards, shrink benefits, and exit partnerships. We’ve made a different call: we’re keeping our rewards, our interest free terms, and our commitment to Kiwi retailers. This is a moment when Kiwi households need that consistency.”

Product features

  • Interest free finance of 6 to 60 months at participating retailers across New Zealand.*
  • Earn NOW Dollars on everyday Visa spend.
  • No fee for an additional cardholder.
  • Digital wallet support, starting with Google Pay, with Apple Pay to follow.

Finance Now is 100 per cent New Zealand-owned and operated, part of SBS Bank, and has been lending to Kiwi households and businesses for 25 years. The company partners with retailers and dealers nationwide, from furniture and appliance stores to car yards and small businesses.

“Putting the Finance Now name on this card is a statement that we’re here, we back our customers, and we’re in this for the long haul,” says Halls.

Community impact recognised at Financial Services Federation Awards

Finance Now has been recognised for its commitment to New Zealand communities, winning the Equifax Community Impact Award at the Financial Services Federation Awards.

The award, presented at the FSF’s annual ceremony in November 2025, recognises financial services organisations that make a meaningful difference beyond their core business activities.

The judges noted it was a close race among finalists but were impressed with Finance Now’s commitment and connection to their local communities, and the thought that had gone into developing their community initiatives.

This includes running a volunteering programme and supporting organisations such as Auckland City Mission, Conservation New Zealand, I Am Hope, Invercargill Blind and Low Vision Centre, Women’s Refuge, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, and the Invercargill Food Bank.

“Being Kiwi-owned means being part of New Zealand communities,” said Hadyn Halls, Finance Now CEO. “Our team, based right across the country, genuinely cares about the places where they live and work. What really matters is the difference we can make every day.”

Celebrating 25 years of making Kiwi moments count

From two founders with a simple idea in 2000 – that finance could be fairer, easier, and proudly Kiwi – to a nationwide team of more than 240 helping New Zealanders make their now count.

This month, Finance Now marks 25 years of serving Kiwi customers and businesses.

It’s been a journey of growth, adaptation, and staying true to what matters: our people, our partners, and the customers who trust us in life’s biggest (and smallest) moments.

When Phil Ellison and the late Wayne Evans started Finance Now from a house in Mount Eden, they wanted to do things differently. With mortgaged houses and the backing of SBS Bank, they built a finance company that would pioneer online applications, put customers first, and remain 100% New Zealand owned.

Twenty-five years on, we’ve grown from a startup into one of New Zealand’s leading finance providers. We’ve weathered the Global Financial Crisis, a pandemic, and economic cycles. We’ve expanded from retail finance into motor vehicle lending, business finance, and credit cards. And through it all, we’ve never lost sight of why we exist: to help Kiwis in those moments that matter.

Our 25-year story is about more than milestones. It’s about the choices, challenges, and moments that define who we are and where we’re going next.

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey – our founders, our people, our partners, and our customers.
